Museum-Quality Wilfred Garcia Acoma Pueblo Mesa Verde Seed Jar with Original Kiva Ladder
An exceptional large-format collector's masterpiece by celebrated Acoma Pueblo master potter Wilfred Garcia (1954-2018), this museum-quality Mesa Verde seed jar represents one of the artist's most iconic and sought-after architectural forms. Hand-coiled from native Acoma clay and traditionally fired, the vessel showcases Garcia's signature flawlessly burnished matte-white surface, serving as the perfect canvas for his renowned cliff-dwelling pueblo imagery. Meticulously sculpted into the shoulder of the jar is an intricate multi-level Mesa Verde architectural scene featuring stepped dwellings, miniature windows, and carved passageways executed with extraordinary precision. Rising dramatically from the opening is the original hand-crafted wooden kiva ladder, creating a striking three-dimensional composition that has become synonymous with Garcia's award-winning work.
Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished contemporary Acoma potters, Wilfred Garcia learned traditional pottery methods from his mother-in-law, the esteemed Acoma matriarch Stella Shutiva, mastering the art of hand-gathering clay, hand-coiling, natural pigments, and outdoor firing. His distinctive architectural pottery earned national recognition, including prestigious Best in Show honors at the Santa Fe Indian Market, firmly establishing him among the most important Pueblo artists of his generation.
